DEALING WITH ANGER HANDBOOK
Step-by-Step Guide for the Helping Professional
I just read Dealing With Anger, and was struck
by the simple, yet comprehensive presentation of what, in my view,
seems most cogent in the process of learning to manage anger. I
am a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family
therapist in the state of Virginia, USA., and have been teaching
what I call the Anger Awareness Workshop for over 10 years. I see
many similarities between Ms. Livingstone’s approach and mine
and especially like how she has organized and presented her information.

As one of the Military Chaplains for 4 Wing
Cold Lake, I became increasingly aware that many of the clients
that I counseled had anger issues, which I felt hesitant about how
to address. When I asked other Helping Care Professionals I found
that they too shared the same concerns. That’s why I asked
Sandy to come to Cold Lake because I knew we needed to learn more
about the emotion of anger and how to help our clients. Sandy’s
“Train the Trainer” workshop not only helped us learn
more about anger, but we are now able to offer biter alternatives
to individuals and groups when it comes to helping others manage
their anger. The information in the Dealing With Anger Handbook
is clear and down-to-earth you will not be disappointed.

Dealing With Anger BOOK
"Dealing with Anger illustrates the necessary skills for
identifying and managing anger, without requiring that the reader
by psychologically minded. There is no need to wade through technical
jargon or elaborate theory. People acquainted with twelve step recovery
programs will find this a useful adjunct to their personal work.
Anyone who can read plain English will find Dealing with Anger
and abundant source."
Dr Paul S Sussman C. Psych (Alta)
"Anger is often a difficult emotion for women especially
those that have been abused, to express. Many women have experienced
violence when another person is angry or been punished when they
express anger. Dealing with Anger lets women explore the
natural feelings of anger, and learn that anger does not need to
result in violent behavior".
I have worked in the sheltering movement for over 19 years and
during that time I have met many women who have not felt safe to
express their feelings - especially anger. To express anger often
placed these women in danger from an aggressive partner, who used
rage to control and label its as anger. I was very encouraged as
a shelter worker to discover, and it did feel like a eureka
discovery Sandy's professional binder which had been developed to
work with women who have lived with violence in their lives.
The information compiled in Dealing With Anger has enabled women
to safely explore the issues surrounding their anger. Women learn
and practice new skills to express anger and communicate needs,
wants and establish healthy boundaries.
The workbook is formatted so you can easily tailor a session to
individual client or group need and also age, we have used the information
for women from 12 years old and up. The information is also very
relevant for shelter workers who may also be dealing with their
own anger issues or wants to learn new ways to encourage women to
express their anger in assertive ways.

"Anger. It belongs to us all now as forever, passed on by
our parents and their parents, as we will surely pass it to our
children. Shaping our behaviors as much as it is shaped by them,
a fundamental part of our being. Inherited by nature and shaped
by nurture. Unfathomable power. Surrounded by the insulating and
isolating myth and taboo, leaving it yet unexplored, mysterious.
And Forbidden.
How, then, do we deal with this potent force in our life, even
begin to understand it, unravel its elements, overcome its fearfulness,
finally to reconnect it, return it to our consciousness and control
as we ever seek to be whole, complete.
Ask Sandy Livingstone, Anger Expert, author, teacher, therapist,
Anger Consultant and guide extraordinaire in this continuing exploration
of our inheritance. Dealing With Anger reaches deep inside the heart
of Anger, leading us to our own Next Chapter, equipping us with
new and improved tools to harness Anger's survivor force, literally
lighting the way. Give this book to someone else if you are not
ready to run the controls of your life. Take care of your anger."
Dr David NH Block, BSc, MD, FRCPC, BCFE
“I use the book "Dealing with Anger” for a college
class that I teach. I love the format of the book and it has been
very useful in guiding students to explore their own anger issues.
I have not found any book that can replace it.
